Check out a Memory Kit from Superior Public Library
Memory Kits are created for individuals with dementia or other cognitive impairments. Each kit uses hands-on activities and sensory prompts to help spark memories, conversation, and connection.
The goal is not to get a specific answer or reaction. Any response is meaningful, and it is important to validate the individual no matter how they respond.
What is a Memory Kit?
Reminiscence
Kits are built around familiar themes that can help people remember stories, routines, places, and experiences.
Sensory activities
Activities may involve touch, sight, sound, smell, or other sensory prompts related to the kit theme.
Shared connection
Use the kit with a loved one, caregiver, or friend to encourage discussion and emotional stimulation.
What is in a Memory Kit?
Each Memory Kit includes activities related to the theme you check out. The specific activities vary by topic, but all are designed to center around the senses.
Kits also include an informational sheet with details about the kit, suggestions for enhancing the experience, and discussion questions.
