Your library card gives you access to books, movies, computers, digital resources, and more.

Library cards are free for Douglas County residents.

Stop by the library with a photo ID and proof of your current address to get started.

Who can get a card?

Douglas County residents

Eligible for a free Superior Public Library card.

Children under 14

Eligible when accompanied by a custodial parent or legal guardian with a library card in good standing.

Out-of-state residents

May receive a limited-service card for physical materials for an annual fee of $35.

Please note: Applicants must be present to be issued a card. Due to licensing agreements, electronic collections, including OverDrive, and inter-library loan services are not available to residents outside Wisconsin.

What you'll need

Bring a picture ID

  • Driver’s license
  • State ID card
  • Tribal ID
  • Passport
  • Student ID

Bring proof of current address

If your photo ID shows your current address, that is all you need.

If your photo ID does not show your current address, bring another document with your name and current address, such as delivered mail, a printed receipt, or check blanks.

Register online for a temporary card

You can sign up online for a temporary card number for instant access to some electronic resources and to place requests for physical materials.

  1. Sign up online.

    Use the temporary card registration form to receive a temporary card number.

  2. Save your temporary card number.

    You will need it to log in to your account and place up to two requests for materials. Temporary cards do not include downloadable materials.

  3. Visit the library within 30 days.

    Bring a photo ID and proof of your current address to complete your registration.

  4. Get your permanent card.

    Once registration is complete, you can check out materials, use library computers, and access or download e-media.

For minors: A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child to complete the registration process.
